Xinhua Silk Road: Sanggou Bay of Rongcheng among list of beautiful bay picks in China

BEIJING, Sept. 7, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently released the second batch of beautiful bay picks, which listed 12 cases including Sanggou Bay in Rongcheng City of Weihai, east China's Shandong Province. 

As a first-time applicant, Sanggou Bay successfully made into the list with the theme of "Exquisite Model of a Beautiful Bay Construction" and ranked third, becoming the first national beautiful bay in the city.

Beautiful bay, an official selection activity, aims to finding out bays that can provide beautiful marine environment as well as quality ecological products, and meet people's growing needs for a better life.  The construction of a beautiful bay has three defining features: a good environment, a sound ecosystem, and a balance between preservation and utilization.

Beautiful bay construction epitomizes the building of a Beautiful China in the marine field, and stands at the center of marine environmental protection. As a result, 100 percent of offshore area in the city has high-quality water, ranking first in Shandong province for four consecutive years, said Bi Jiankang, director general of Weihai Ecology and Environment Bureau. 

In order to achieve the goal of comprehensive environmental improvement in Sanggou Bay, Rongcheng has strengthened systematic planning and management, and introduced seven actions, according to Wang Shuguang, vice mayor of Rongcheng. These actions include  clearing aquaculture, demolishing scattered buildings, starting from the source, restoring environment, preserving local culture, improving quality and efficiency, and advancing transformation. 

Since the implementation of the seven actions, Sanggou Bay has established China's first national urban wetland park, as well as "citizens' parlors" such as Sakura Lake Sports Park and Seaside Park. In addition, a "water ecosystem+" economic belt has been built, which covers cultural tourism, leisure and business, water sports, among others.
