Xinhua Silk Road: Sister city partnership between E. China's Weihai, ROK's Bucheon promotes exchanges and cooperation

BEIJING, June 30, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- This year marks the 23rd year of friendly exchanges between Weihai City, east China's Shandong Province, and Bucheon City of Republic of Korea (ROK). 

Two cities have reached practical exchanges and cooperation in fields such as economy, foreign trade, culture, education, sports and youth exchanges.

Weihai has seen investment from a surging number of ROK enterprises, with the number of Bucheon enterprises investing in Weihai amounting to 77 at its peak, said an official from the Foreign Affairs Office of Weihai.

Bucheon companies tap healthy and sound business environment in Weihai while some Weihai enterprises invest in its sister city as well, and each side regularly sends personnel to participate in major events held by the other side, such as trade matchmaking meetings, high-end forums and international animation festivals.

Meanwhile, Bucheon University has extensive cooperation with Shandong University (Weihai), Weihai Vocational College, Weihai Ocean Vocational College, Weihai Vocational Secondary Professional School, etc.

"In 2022, our university and Bucheon University signed a cooperation agreement, and the two sides will carry out in-depth exchanges in curriculum resource sharing, teaching reform, teacher-student interaction," said an official from the Weihai Vocational Secondary Professional School.

In addition, Weihai has long carried out family experience exchange activities with Bucheon, and 230 middle school students from both sides have participated in offline exchanges so far. 

Animation companies from the two cities have also signed cooperation agreements, and football and table tennis teams of the two cities have visited each other and held friendly matches to promote culture and tourism exchanges.
