Australian Crowdsourcing Service DesignCrowd Launches in India

SYDNEY, Oct. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Australian crowdsourcing marketplace, DesignCrowd, has launched its crowdsourcing service in India via DesignCrowd.co.in, a new crowdsourcing website for Indian businesses and designers.

DesignCrowd will be aiming to recruit talented Indian designers to its community and offer its crowdsourcing service to Indian small businesses.

DesignCrowd CEO Alec Lynch said, "India is a world leader in crowdsourcing and is perhaps crowdsourcing's biggest user. We estimate there are 500,000 to 1 million Indian designers looking for work online but India also has 26 million small and micro businesses that could benefit from crowdsourcing -- so the opportunity for DesignCrowd is huge."

Over 10,000 Indian designers and business owners have already started using DesignCrowd with five Indian designers featuring in DesignCrowd's Top 20 Designers earning on average over US$25,000 each.  Lynch said, "On DesignCrowd, we see a lot of talented designers from India but we're seeing an explosion in Indian businesses buying crowdsourcing services -- India is the second largest purchaser of services on DesignCrowd in the region (after Singapore) and our largest source of designers outside of Australia and the US."

One Indian designer -- Arun Bhattachary, a Kolkata designer -- made US$10,000 in his first month on DesignCrowd.  According to Lynch, "DesignCrowd.co.in provides a great opportunity for thousands of Indian designers to earn money, build their portfolios, and find clients from around the world. Indian designers looking for new projects can register with the site for free and start earning today."

DesignCrowd.co.in will offer both local crowdsourcing -- a feature that allows Indian businesses to crowdsource designs from Indian designers -- and international crowdsourcing giving Indian businesses to access over 90,000 designers from around the world.

In addition to its launch in the India, DesignCrowd is also launching in the Philippines and Singapore. DesignCrowd's entry into Asia comes three months after its launch in Canada and the UK and one year after it received a $3M investment from Australian venture capital firm Starfish Ventures.

Following expansion into Asia, DesignCrowd will be targeting growth in the United States and will also be assessing opportunities in South America and Europe.
