China's Online Games Demonstrate Originality in New Era of Export

BEIJING, Jan. 24 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Beijing Perfect World Co., Ltd. announced that the "2006 China Online Game Industry Annual Meeting" was completed successfully in Chengdu, China, with participants from the government, industry and media from all over China discussing future developments of the online gaming industry. The meeting reviewed that domestic online games occupied 64.8% of the China market last year, while rapid increase in exports reached USD20 million.

Among the exports, license fees of "Perfect World", China's first self-developed online game exported to Japan, reached USD2 million, and the game has since been exported to over ten countries overseas. According to statistics, China developed 218 online games in 2006, which increased by 26 games compared to 2005, an increase of 13.5%. Sales of domestic online games were RMB4.24 billion in 2006, or 64.8% of the total income, an increase of 87.4% compared to 2005. China's online games are moving towards self-innovation and development, and as the quality gap between China's self-developed products and overseas products narrows, the growth of China's online game exports becomes inevitable.
