Frost & Sullivan's 6th Annual OSS BSS Asia Pacific Summit Looks at Multi-Industry Collaboration to Meet Customer Needs

2012-03-22 17:15

SINGAPORE, March 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Frost & Sullivan hosted the 6th Annual OSS BSS Asia Pacific Summit on March 21 - 22, 2011 at the Mandarin Orchard in Singapore. This two- day summit discussed the changing world of communications marketplace. Much of what is possible in the next 2 to 4 years lies in orchestrated execution of technology updates and systems needed to maintain a better customer experience.

Over 150 delegates attended the summit and Manoj Menon, Partner and Asia Pacific Managing Director, Frost & Sullivan kick started the summit on Mega Trends within the communications industry which is expected to impact the business environment. This includes elements like social networking, mobile data, and unified communication and how they will enable broader "megatrends" that will drive all facets of society including urbanization, smart infrastructure, geo socialization, cyber realities, and even smart cloud services.

Pranay Mishra, Chief Executive Officer, Orange Cellular delivered the keynote address  said, "The CSP community is presently positioned with a golden opportunity to improve the experience of each customer within the communications sector and for those from other industries who are pushing to incorporate mobile communications into the services and products provided to their customers."

The first day of the summit progressed with a case study presentation from Julian Lonsdale, Head of Business Architecture, Telecom, New Zealand. He shared with the delegates on a challenge to use a structured business architecture system to re-design its shared services division to meet it.  The strategy calls for better defined capability and accountability for business functions, eliminating duplication and centralising where appropriate while maintaining focus on customers.

"There are many updates that will be shared about the key drivers that are continuing to shape the communications marketplace. OSS BSS are now challenged to fulfill roles currently deployed systems were never designed to meet. New roles means new business strategies and more real-time everything. OSS BSS are new part of each service offer that comes through many new business models," said Karl Whitelock, Director OSS BSS Strategy, Stratecast, Frost & Sullivan.

On the second day, one hot topic looked into how social media transforms the customer experience. Social network sites have caught the attention of many especially those under 25 years old. Discussions centred on how enterprise can embrace social networking model to improve the customer experience with their goods and service. What impact does this have on new service offers, especially cloud-based applications and will social networking model and 'crowd behaviour' drive business and provide end-users with new opportunities.

The Panel Discussions saw representatives from YTL Communications Sdn Bd, Tunetalk, PT XL Axiata, Redknee, Nuclues Connect, Progress Software, TelecomAsia, Asia Cloud Computing Association, SNIA, Knowledge Universe, GRASP Technolgies and there was active participation in the panel discussions during the two days.
