Hong Kong to Host Highly Acclaimed SB Sustainable Building Regional Conference

Secretary for the Environment to deliver opening keynote address for the discussion on future sustainable urban development

HONG KONG, July 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Construction Industry Council (CIC) and Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) officially kicked off the countdown to the Sustainable Building 2013 Hong Kong Regional Conference (SB13 HK) today, a symposium that will gather regional and worldwide experts to share and exchange knowledge in the area of sustainable built development. 

Hosting of this high level Regional Conference not only sets the stage for showcasing the distinctive characteristics of Hong Kong's built environment, but also signifies the international recognition of our industry stakeholders' achievement and hard work on leading the sustainable building movement.

Taking place on 12-13 September 2013 at Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East Hotel under the theme of "Urban Density & Sustainability", SB13 HK is an industry conference with an ambition to generate all-new insights into the balance between urban growth and sustainable development.

Mr. Wong Kam-sing, JP, Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government, is SB13 HK's honourable guest who will deliver the opening keynote speech, while many other renowned regional and international keynote speakers will share their fruitful research and valuable insights from a holistic approach in this two-day conference.

Key areas to be discussed at SB13 HK will include how urban density affects the life of the individual and a city's economic growth, how meticulous planning coupled with social considerations will affect urban revitalisation as well as overall city planning and integrated design, the importance of government policies and visions, and the latest technological innovations and labeling standards. A variety of regional and international case studies will also be examined.  

One of the highlights of the event will be an interactive Green Building Tour of Hong Kong on the second day. To further encourage the exchange of knowledge and technical know-how, attendees can participate in an exclusive and informative guided tour of the city's preeminent green building landmarks. Three different specially-designed routes will cover Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories, showcasing successful real-life examples of sustainable building projects that accommodate different needs of a modern metropolis with high population.

About the Organisers

Construction Industry Council

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) was formed on 1 February 2007 under the Construction Industry Council Ordinance Cap. 587. The CIC consists of a chairman and 24 members representing various sectors of the industry including employers, professionals, academics, contractors, workers, independent persons and Government officials.

The main functions of the CIC are to forge consensus on long-term strategic issues, convey the industry's needs and aspirations to Government, provide training for construction workforce and serve as a communication channel for Government to solicit advice on all construction-related matters.
