China Telecom Donates Rice to Charitable "Food Bank"

HONG KONG, Dec. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- China Telecom Corporation Limited ("China Telecom" or "the Company"; HKEx: 00728; NYSE: CHA) donated 2,000 packs of rice, weighed 2kg each, to a charitable "Food Bank", Feeding Hong Kong, aiming to support those in need.  The donation was an extension of an earlier promotion campaign by the Company, namely, "Enjoy Coffee & Share Love", held on Thanksgiving Day with a view to implementing its corporate social responsibility.

To share joy and thanks for the support of public at large driving the Company's great success in 2012, including but not limited to being voted consecutively as "No. 1 Best Managed Company in Asia" in both the polls by Euromoney and FinanceAsia, the leading financial magazines, and named as "Asia's Most Honored Companies" in Institutional Investor's poll, China Telecom held a free coffee campaign on Thanksgiving Day, namely, "Enjoy Coffee & Share Love".  China Telecom offered 2,000 cups of coffee for free at petite Amanda, a cafe run by the star model, Amanda S. and promised that every cup of coffee redeemed through the campaign would be matched by the donation of a pack of rice of 2kg by the Company. 

All rice that is donated by China Telecom will be distributed by Feeding Hong Kong to a network of charity partners to support those people in need, including shelters for the homeless, children's homes, senior day centres and migrant worker support centres.  Feeding Hong Kong is a Hong Kong registered charity with a mission to fight hunger in the city and reduce the amount of quality food being sent to landfills.  Feeding Hong Kong also works to raise awareness about poverty and food insecurity in Hong Kong and promote healthy eating and nutritional education to the most vulnerable groups in our community.
