BEIJING, April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2015, two top priorities on the agenda of Beijing municipal government are controlling pollution and dispersing urban functions.

In terms of dispersion of urban functions, Mayor Wang Anshun, among other officials, has inspected Beijing Zoo Wholesale Market (Zoo Market for short) many times, and pointed out; "The dispersion of the Zoo Market away from the downtown area is a must without any leeway for compromise." His remarks accentuated again the resolution of Beijing municipal government for further upgrading of urban functions.

In response to the government's call, businesses in the Zoo Market have tried to implement changes in their operations. Glorious Oriental, a renowned Chinese commercial property operator, announced on April 28 that it will continue to firmly implement the strategy of Zoo Market transformation and industrial upgrading, specifically leveraging on dongpi.com, a new O2O (online to offline) business model, to drive the transformation and upgrading of tens of thousands of merchants in the Zoo Market. Under the stewardship of Glorious Oriental, Beijing ShijiTianle International Clothing Market recorded revenue of more than RMB 35 billion in 2014, accounting for half of the market shares in the Zoo Market business area.

Formed in the 1980s, the Zoo Market has now become the source of design, production, development and wholesale of fashionable clothing in China, attracting a large number of celebrities for shopping.

However, after nearly 30 years of development, the backward nature of the Zoo Market is becoming increasingly obvious, highlighting the concerns of Beijing municipal government. It accommodates tens of thousands of merchants with more than 30,000 employees, and integrates logistics, storage and distribution, causing serious traffic jams and a dirty and disorderly environment.

Since 2013, Beijing municipal government has made great efforts to rectify low-end traditional industries, however some industry insiders are worried about the after effect of improper dispersion for traditional business, as it involves the livelihood of many people. How to ensure orderly and effective dispersion has been a big headache for the government.

dongpi.com provides a distinctive solution to this problem. According to a relevant executive of dongpi.com, the dongpi.com model is to build the offline wholesale market into four centers by connecting the existing merchants to an e-business model - a creative design center of clothing designers, a launch center of new clothing products, an exhibition center of new clothing products, and an e-business operation center, moving the logistics and storage to the suburban area outside the South Fifth Ring Road of Beijing, and supporting the growth of self-owned clothing brands.

Some experts believe that the practice of dongpi.com to upgrade a traditional industry into an innovative business is aligned with the positioning of Beijing as a technical innovation center, and it will serve as an example for the transformation of other traditional business operations.

Speaking at the 'Two Sessions,' one deputy mayor also said; "The dongpi.com model is to upgrade the existing business model, reshape the business operators and provide a valuable opportunity for industrial upgrading and efficiency improvement." He went on to express the municipal government's efforts in continuing to create favorable innovation conditions for dongpi.com, saying; "We expect the dongpi.com brand to go global one day."
